What is health coaching?

The health coach is a new breed of healthcare professional whose job is to guide individuals through the minefield of dietary and lifestyle change. They support clients to make behavioural changes by utilizing techniques such as goal setting, identifying obstacles, positive reinforcement and support.

What kind of issues can health coaching address?

Health coaches can support you in almost any area of change that is difficult. This includes weight loss, nutritional guidance, stress and anxiety reduction, pain and inflammation management, sleep problems or lowering the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

How long is a session?

Typically, you meet with a health coach weekly or bi-weekly for about an hour. It can be over the phone, via Skype or in person. The program lasts anywhere from two months to six months to longer.

How do I know if I am a good candidate?

People anywhere along the process of change can benefit from working with a health coach. A health coach can help bring about the awareness of the need to change, help to find or maintain motivation to and be an accountability partner, someone to keep you on track.
